Ok guys. At long last I'm about to build my coffee can forge and I have a quick question.

Just to be sure. The ITC goes over the insulating blanket?

Also, should I maybe brush on a coat on the inside of the can as well before the blanket goes in?

Yes the ITC goes over the blanket, It's purpose is to reflect the heat back into the forge. Most will suggest coating the interior of the forge with satanite first. The satanite is less expensive and can be put on thick enough to make the interior of the forge more durable. Then you put on the thin coat of ITC 100. Be sure to let the forge dry out completely before you fire it to avoid a possible steam explosion.

Yup, what he said. I didn't personally put the ITC on the can/pipe, just on the outside of the blanket...I'm sure it wouldn't hurt, but didn't think it was necessary.

The ITC-100 is a reflective refractory. It should be the icing on the insulation cake. Use whatever wool you wish, coat with 1/4" of satanite, and top coat with ITC-100. This will make a great forge lining that will last for a long time. There is no need to coat the pipe/shell with ITC-100, as the heat is on the other side of the wool.
