Would an old gas grill work for a forge? I have two I could choose from: one that runs on propane and one that plugs up to my gas line in the house. Didn't know if that would provide the btu's I need.

A gas grill will not work as it is.

You could probably use the shell and turn it into a forge somehow (insulation, firebrick, coatings).

Hey Stalbot-
I just converted an old grill in to a coal forge. It was pretty easy and only cost about $50 bucks. All you need are some firebricks, some pipe(not galvanized) and an air source. If you do a youtube search you can find all sorts of videos on home made forges, however I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks! I've been poking around looking. Trying to figure out if I can use propane or natural gas to run it if I go this route. Gas v coal forge, I guess.
