I have a fairly small horizontal venturi forge with two burners. It is designed with a four inch square opening on each end. I dont usually work on stock that is long enough to need to pass it through. Will temporarily closing off the unneeded opening with a correctly sized fire brick allow the forge to get hotter, less hot or not have any noticable effect?

Thanks

John

Although I don't have a gas forge, I don't see why that wouldn't work. Just keep in mind that with the other opening closed off, all the hot gasses in the forge will come out the hole you use. Thats just my 2 cents. There may be other problems besides that though.

you might not have enough oxygen/air if you close it. it will be interesting to see what the more experienced guys say

good luck

I does make inner chamber hotter significantly, but be sure to leave an opening at least 2 times size of your burner nozzle dia. to let the expanding gas escape...

It works well and is more efficient to boot. Your burner air is coming from the rear end of the burner, but the forge doors. I only open ups the rear passthrough on my forge when I need to work stock longer than the forge body.
