Well I've been a lurker here for a while. I built a forge a while back and haven't gotten around to firing it up sorta speak untill I was cookin a couple nights ago and had some coals left over so I decided to see if it worked. Well after that I gotta bug and came home tonight and cooked a steak. Bout 10 minutes from unfired coal to done steak.....mmmmmmmm. I have a bunch of motorcycle chain around and as of yesterday a 5 foot bar of 7/8"OD 52100 coming. I'm short some real coal right now but I'm so pumped. Kinda been tooling up behind the scenes for about a half year. Anvil built. Forge built. Bike chains from motorcycle salvage yard. Multiple books and Ed Fowler's read through a number of times (explains my choice in metal)
Tonight after the steak I threw a stock removal knife made outta a bastard file I annealed in a camp fire a while back and havent got around to hardening. It definitely reaches forging temps. I'll get picks of my home made set up soon. Just giddy and felt like posting. I guess theres a guy on ebay that sells forging coal. I debated making my own but couldn't find a big metal barrel. Anyone know a good place for coal in the D/FW area? Or atleast a good place to look for a big metal drum to make some in?

...best steak I ever had.
