I am just wondering what kind of time you get out of your propane tank refills. I have started to keep track on last fill to see what my forge gives me at around 2000 deg. Thanks

If I had to average between winter and summer on a 20 lb cylinder on my venturi t rex forge I get 8 hours at 3 to 4 lbs of pressure after it is at temp. On my Zowada blown forge I get 12 hours running at 1 1/2 pounds after it reaches temp. I know when I decide to dive into damascus I will have to turn the pressure.

I've started to keep track of how many hours I get per bottle several times but always end up forgetting. I don't bother anymore.

with my NC Tool Co Whisper baby i can go almost 20 hours on a full 20lb tank at 4 to 5 psi. It's hands down just about the most frugal propane forge ever made >_< No it will never reach welding temp, and i actually shrink the firebox smaller than its already small size with a firebrick.

My single burner blown forge will go through my 40lb tank in about 5 hours, it'll freeze up a 20lb tank.

I have a 100 pound tank that holds 20 something gallons, I usually run the forge at 3-5 psi and around 8-10 hours a week, it usually runs for 4 months inbetween refills. Its a one burner with a size 57 hole drilled for the burner.

I'll freeze a 20 pounder in 2-3 hours depending on if I'm welding or not, I;ll get two freezes in summer from a bottle, 3-4 in the winter, but in the winter I'll ice one up to zero pressure in less than an hour

when i lived in hawaii i could freeze up a 20 in the summer to zero psi. But that was my old forge.

I can run mine for about 18 hours or more on a 20, but I have never run it that long in one strech. I keep mine at about 2 psi after it warms up. Blown forge.

Interesting thread. My burner used to be atmospheric with #60 hole, I converted it to blown and have since converted it to burn waste oil. Today was the first time I actually got it to sustain an oil burn and hold over 2000° with the propane completely turned off. It took about an hour of steadily increasing oil and decreasing propane until I finally just turned the valve off. I started with a fresh tank today so I'm anxious to find out how long it lasts.

Damn Dan, a hundred gallons would cost me around 450 dollars! A tank fill up for my 100 pound tank runs around 74 dollars

Last year 100 gallons was $250-$310 depending on the time of year. It should be back down to 2.50 a gallon again.

Companys around here sell small quanties foralot more than bigger ones. They will deliver to your home and charge around 2.50 but if you want less they have set prices. My 100lbs tank takes around 20 gallons and to fill it up cost me at the cheapest place 98.00. I just got in good with one dealer around here and made him up a nice knife, so next time and maybe from now on I will get it at cost, which is around 65 dollars. We have one building supply that charges 134.00 for a 100 lbs, That robbery right there!
