is there any way i can use my propane fryer to make a forge for heat treating? thanks

Probably not hurley, at least I'm not aware of it and it may be more expensive to convert something than to just start with the right stuff.

You may know about the Janesville knife show in the spring. It might be worth asking makers there for ideas, might be someone near you. You can also use google advanced search to search the forum. Sorry if you already knew these things.

You can build your own "mini forge" or "coffee can forge". It is very simple even with no experience. Here are the links used when I built mine:

I used coffee can forge design with Bernzomatic JTH-7 ($20 on sale at Lowes) for a burner.

as long as you have a wood or coal fire and a wind source you can make your own forge, i built min out of a brake drum with legs and shop vac output. get creative on your own design but they all work as long as you have those two ingredients. good luck
