Beautiful work, the symbolism?

Much thanks 1Hiker2. Bo is a traditional, language speaking, ceremonial person so all of his work is laden with both apparent and hidden symbolism. Each particular instrument he manifests that I have seen all carry different or differing patterns of symbolism, as I understand every knife or bow or planting stick is it's own living entity. In traditional philosophy or understanding all shapes, colors, and symbols carry a particular frequency or resonance that effects the natural world around it in it's own way. Like a talisman or a tuning fork and is an expression of a greater collective natural aspect. The one consistent symbolism you will find in all his work is the "nauhkahmpah" or solar cross symbol which traditionally symbolizes balance and the great consciousness at its center-point and a 4 dimensional expansion from that center-point as well as a 4 dimensional retraction or concentration back to that center-point, which is the basis and cycle of all physical life through which all living things exist through or are able to be perceived through. The 6 solar crosses down the spine of all his blades, he told me represent the 6th world. The 6th world to all of us original Gila/Colorado river people is a prophesized time where natural homeostasis and the sacred balance is once again returned. As well, the knapped looking pattern that is a part of his all of his blades he says represents "teychopohneelohnee" or the stone fang. Which in his bands oral history was the original stone fang tooth mother earth gave them from her flesh long after bipeds had lost their canine during their transition from dogs to two legged's. During an era where a migration had to occur and the flesh of animals had to be eaten once again after two-leggeds had proved their humility in that shape and form and proved that they could be trusted with that power once again. Under the promise that they would maintain their humility and the sacred symbiotic way of life and culture given to them by the eco-region that originally manifested them and not become prideful and unbalanced. He says the significance of the knapped stone on every one of his knives is a reminder of that pact when they were given back their canine tooth by the earth and a reminder that they must never forget this pact and responsibilities that came with it. The particular large solar crosses on the blade of this knife is traditionally known as the serpent tongue solar cross, which has to do with intuition and the ability to be aware of something in it's totality before it has the capability to be made aware of you. The animal skin sleeve and pinwork I could go into but Bo I am sure would still prefer an even more in depth explanation to take place. But in short the skin sleevework and pinwork on all his knives are another remembrance or personification of an ancient pact he says, and are one of the many traditional ways instruments were adorned to show the level of adoration, importance, and overwhelming appreciation for the function, act, use and aspect that instrument represents or takes part in. Of course the symbols, and numerical patterns of the symbols in the pinwork, the color of the metal used for pinwork all have purpose and symbolism within themselves as well.

Thank you very much nannybear, I have the same problem with Bo's work. I remember when I first saw his work at the Gallup swap meet before much later I started working on making a website for him. He only had two knives at his table along with a bow, I must have stood there for 4 hours looking at each one back and forth. I still notice new things when I look at the knife he made me a year ago that I carry every day.
