Hey Guys…

Well here is the final product….

Knife is made from 1050, and clay hardened.
I hand sanded the knife for 2.5 hours to a 600 grit finish. Wally put a quick 800 on it with the belt..

It came out a lot better than I expected…
It’s still a rough looking knife,, however that was the intended plan from the beginning of this project.

In this picture you can see there is actually a double temper line on the blade. Not exactly sure how that happened…

A closer view of it…

Here is my second forged knife..
I forged this knife in Wally’s forge as well, and heat treated under his supervision..

Blade steel is 1084

This is the first 2 forged knives together…

Here I shortened and changed the rear of the handle a little. Knife is heat treated and finish ground to 400 grit..

This little hunter was really fun to make.. Grinding was very minimal on it as the forging process pretty much formed it to shape…

Hope to finished it up next week…

A VERY Special Thank you to Master Bladesmith Wally Hayes for All of the Help and allowing me to use his shop..
It will Never be forgotten !

Thanks for your time..

excellent looking knife man, especially that first one

keep up the good work

I love the rougher look, great stuff !!!

I'd like to see what it looks like with wooden handle slabs !!!!;)

Eric that looks outstanding! I love the looks of that.

The sheath ain't too shabby either! :D

looks great with the wrap Bro.

I like the tan sheath too, really suits the knife.

Hamon pops in the photo's very nicely

when do we get to test it out????:D:D

Looks great Eric! That odd hammon blends itself well with the unfished top edge! Brown parachord wrap tops it off very nicely.

Great work Erik! You are well on your way to a very fun and interesting addiction/obsession! There's no going back now!(not that you'd want to:D) -Matt-

Great looking knife! All business... I like the way your temper line shows on the blade. I hope you will test it out and give us a report back.

Hey Guys...

Thank you all Very much for the encouragement, it is much needed and appreciated...

Did a little chopping and shaving last night....

cuttingtest.jpg

Chopped a pressure treated 2X4 in half twice..Was a little tired last night so it took a few more cuts
to hack through it.

shavingtest.jpg

After the chopping the knife was still shaving sharp..Not hair popping, but it did shave...Zero damage to the edge.

I'm pretty happy with the edge holding on this knife...

After so many years of not liking carbon steels, these simple test have changed my mind Completely on the carbon steel knives.. I'm now sold on carbon for blade steel!

Thanks
