I haven't been doing much lately. My daughter moved back for a while to save money to buy a house. So in the mean time I lost the basement. No place for tools and stuff. Been building sheds and adding to the garage. Still need to organize but I'm getting there. Busy at work and some honey dos' took more time. Anyway I was admiring one of Stuart Willis tomahawks this morning and I got the itch. Kind of piled stuff to one end of the shop and started forging.
I had an old ball peen hammer to practice on. It's rough but a little grinding and some forge tweaking it should turn out OK. Then I have some bearings I wanted to play with, it turned into a sweet little blade wit a slight recurve. The bearing made another nice blade. The spring clip was going to be a couple smaller blades but it kept getting bigger and bigger so I left it that way. They are all rough but it was nice to get the fire going for a while.
Like I said it's been a while and I'm beat so I'm going to take a nap:rolleyes:

You did good:thumbup:,I have some of those clips but haven't tried one,how do they forge?Keep hammerin'--Regards Butch

Wow!! Looking good. Don't you just love taking a ball peen and making a tomahawk out of it. Be careful it is very addicting. Thats going to be a nice hawk.

Thanks. I'll be doing a few more. I can see where it can be addicting. When anyone asks I'll blame you for it.;)

Hear is the hawk rough profiled. I stuck a handle on for reference but I'll fit a haft for it.

I fired up the forge this morning to heat treat the hawk.
Here it is before HT

While the forge was hot I finally worked on rasp I got a while back. It forge welded easier than I expected and turned out well. Here it is with the hawk after HT. Still need to mustard/vinegar etch it and see what I get.

Looks real nice Larry.

On the patina I use cold blueing and then soak in bleach. There is no set time on the soak. Just keep checking till get the look you want.
