This axe head is forged from mild steel with a 1075 carbon steel cutting bit welded in. You can see pictures of the forging process in this thread. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...d-Belt-Axe-hatchet-with-some-forging-pictures
The head is about 6" long with a 3 1/4" wide cutting edge.The eye is a traditional hatchet shape. The edge is very sharp and polished. It has a nice aged patina. The haft is a very nice piece of curly maple. This handle was made by hand from a curly maple board. Stained with aqua fortis, rubbed with boiled linseed oil and finihed with wax. The haft is wedged in top.

WOW, that's a gorgeous piece. Very nice aesthetic, but understated.
 
I would have been all over that too but it seems that there is a line ahead of me :) love the rustic look and the handle is beautiful. You sure turn out some wonderful items!
