Hey folks, here's the first installment. All blades in this first group are hammer forged to shape only, no grinding has been done AT ALL.... so please keep that in mind.... there are no perfectly parallel (surface ground) surfaces or completely square edges.
I know that each one of these can be finished out to a super clean blade, based on my experience with these steels. But they're forged close enough to shape that if you want a "rustic" look, that shouldn't be an issue either.
With how anal I am about a "foundation" and a surface ground ricasso... it would make sense if I didn't hammer them this much... but I am a hammering fool and like to work hot steel.
All the W1 and W2 blades have THE POTENTIAL for crazy hamon---but it requires you do the homework and work to create one and polish it--- don't expect it to happen by magic!!! The Aldo 1084 and 5160 blades are not great for creating a hamon (IMHO).
Hope these will work for some of you
THANKS!
