Hey everyone I've been lurking around here for a while, thanks for all the awesome tips and info. I started making knives in May and would say that this is about my 8th knife.

For most of my knives I've forged the blade with a heavier 4lb hammer and then done some finer peening along the spine to give contrast. I did the same for this Bowie-esque knife and am really happy with the results!

Overall length is 13 inches

Blade is just a tad over 7 inches

Full tang, Rosewood handles with SS lanyard hole

Forged 01 tool steel

Feedback is much appreciated, thanks everyone!

its pretty cool :D feedback? i think putting a curve on the guard would sweeten up the visual appeal. maybe something like this.

Thanks guys, woodster that's a good call I think I may try that out on my next blade. I've been having a hell of a time working stainless (so hard to drill!) so I think I may continue with brass and 01 for component/bolsters for a while and then have another go at the stainless. I'm working on another Bowie now that's a hidden tang, second hidden tang knife, really love the process for doing that.

Only advice I have would be to add a bit more curves in the profile. The fact that the spine's straight for nearly the full length of the knife is a bit much for me. Just my opinion though.

Looks beautiful overall and your photography is impressive!

Looks good. I like the forge markings in the upper flat and ricasso. They look like meteor impacts... Good photography as well. Really focuses on the blade - I wish others would spend a bit more time on their photos as I think they do themselves an injustice with poor presentation.

The spine is a little flat for me as well, but if you're happy with it, then it's all good.

Thanks guys :) I do think I'm going to try out some more curved styles, I've always liked the more flowing curves some Bowie knives have as well.

And yes the photography is so important! I used to do some professional photography and recently got a nice setup with a light tent, tripod, lights etc and have been spending a lot of time photographing my knives and glass work. The difference in the quality of the photos is huge compared to the photos I was doing before
