I don't know if I am posting this in the right place. If not, please move it.
I forged this one about 2-3 years ago, and it has been sitting in my shop ever since waiting for me to finish it. I finally got around to it (I didn't want to hand sand it, that is why it sat so long) I have never made a blade like this before, and it was an interesting job with a bunch of new techniques, from the blade to the sheath. I considered keeping it for my own camping and outdoors stuff, but figured I would let it go.
The hatchet is 1095. It really slices well, and could be used for a variety of chores. I forged it and ground it fairly thin, for a hatchet that is. I did some test chopping on a hickory handle with it, torquing the blade back and forth, and it held up well. It is sharpened like a razor, although I didn't strop it like I do most of my knives.
The handle is OD Green Micarta. It is held in place with peened pins and G-flex epoxy. I made it so the knife could be choked up on for delicate tasks, or gripped at the end for chopping.
I guess the sheath is what I am most proud of. I didn't want to put a belt loop on it, so I designed it as a shoulder carry with a sling type sheath design. I have a picture of me wearing it, and it can also be worn on the left side in kind of a cross draw configuration. The strap is held on with quick release clips, kind of like miniature carabiners.
Dimensions
Blade width - 4"
Cutting edge - 5 1/2"
OAL - 11 3/4"
This is a limited edition Bailey knife... I am not likely to make another any time soon.
Price - $255 shipped to US. I prefer paypal but will accept check or money order.
The first to post here "I'll take it!" gets it.
