This is a hand forged hammer poll hawk. It was forged from a bar of 1045. Edge hardened and tempered. It is hair popp'n sharp. 7 1/4" long head overall with a 2 1/2" wide cutting edge.
The special thing here is the haft. It is the nicest piece of curly maple Ive ever handled. The chatoyance is wonderful. Deep, close curl.I honestly dont often say this but the pixs barely do this maple justice.It was stained with aqua fortis and finished with boiled linseed oil.
