Forged In Fire

I get the same thing here, Don. Before FIF, nobody knew what the hell I was talking about... "Bladesmith? ... what's that? People actually make knives by hand?" Now they all want to apprentice... for free, of course... lol.

I've done a few Father/Son "Make a knife in a day" workshops. Which I think is great.

In a lot of ways this shows is better than Top Shot, which I think a lot of us also enjoyed despite its flaws. This one is better for the sheer pleasure of being able to root for people you 'know'... at least on the internet.

My family enjoys the show a lot, my eight year old has only been slightly interested in knives but now he wants to go to Blade.(we hope to see some of the competitors from forged in fire when we go this year)

I enjoy seeing the 2 top competitors home shops and the different ways each one goes about forging the blade, making the metal flow takes a certain touch and skill.

I admit, I was scared to death to do the show with the chance of failure, and terrified after the failure, scared my orders would drop or I would be a laughing stock, but just the opposite, the shows continued growth and support has only benefited me. Sounds like the newer showed lay out directions and uses a lot better that what we got with first season, but its been harder challenges, my hat is off to all that try!

I remember that episode, brother. My stomach dropped when I saw you misheard the requirements. Coulda happened to the best of us... and it HAS!

Back to the original three.
Thanks... I get the episodes long after they've actually aired.

Up until that point I was having the time of my life, but once I realized I had lost so much time, the pressure ate me alive and I made several rookie mistakes I normally wouldn't make. Having my shop so custom fit to my needs and process and going into such a different open environment got the best of me, props to all that succeed under that pressure, if I had my fan blowing on me,all the water I can drink and music blaring and the lights turned off, my coal forge, my power hammer, my anvil I would have been a happy guy, but that's not competition, and that's not what gets peoples attention, they want a crazy environment and that separates people who are used to pressure and those who aren't, like I said mad respect for those that succeed on the show and just as much respect for those that dont!
