Forged knife care -- advice please.

Another vote for Breakfree CLP.

I've stored some of the knives for almost two decades in knife rugs with a coating on the blades with nary a speck of oxidation on any of them in that time.

Guns have been stored with the same coating for over 30 years with no issues as well.

Roger, pretty much any gun-store.

I've used Breakfree on all my guns for years and never had a rust problem arise.

Why I went to something different for my knives, like the Ren Wax, it was because I thought having a dry coating instead of an oily coating on the knife would make looking at and handling the knife better and less messy.
What a mistake that was.

Of course Renaissance Wax works great for polishing natural handle materials. I do use what I have for that. However, as far as it protecting carbon steel from rusting, from my experience with it, I might as well put my knives in salt water.
