Nice job Mark. Was wondering what hardness you take the cutting edge to and how are you tempering the blade?

I like the handle shape and the pins. The blade looks like it has a good shape. I would prefer a polished edge, but I do like seeing the forge marks. My favourite examples of that approach are Murray Carter's work. I like the contrast between the highly polished grinds and the rough forged surfaces.

I'm wondering if the ricasso could be narrowed a little. I realise that that might run contrary to your style, and maybe throw off the balance of this particular piece. I only suggest it as a possibility to help draw attention to that nice brass guard you've got. Just a thought. Keep on grinding.

This is one that I forged a while ago, Edge was quenched in oil and ended up with a 59 RC hardness. I appreciate the comments on this one, it was never mean't to be a regular model that I carried as part of the Pack River line. Just a one off custom mean't as a big blade that looks somewhat period correct and could do just about anything you asked of it...from splitting an elk pelvis to taking that eight day growth off your face. Figured it would be better served with someone using it rather that sitting in a cabinet in my shop. My seven year really keeps eyeing it and asking if he can chop some wood with it. I think he'll have to wait a while.

Thanks,

Mark
