Here's the key..............................if you don't slip with the file and rake the file across the 800 grit polish on your handle on just about every pass around.......................you're doing it wrong.
Your knife inspired me!!! I had this blade for over a year laying around (first blade I ever forged) and decide to try a handle more shaped like yours. Now 95% of all my knives are full tangs. Ive done a few japanese style kitchen knives so Im way out of my comfort zone. So after printing pic of all the pics you posted and taking one walnut handle off and retrying with some redwood this is what I got.
