I was in the process of making a forge out of plans found on the web when low and behold i found a ferrier who had 2 old Johnson nateral gas forges rusting behind his barn...so after $50 the use of his tractor and bucket loader, my girl friends trailor, and little sweat i now have the 2 suckers sitting in my garage...(i must give a big thanks to my girl friend for helping me unload them from the trailer they must weigh about 300-400lbs apiece) ok so what do i do now? i would like to convert them to propane and tune them down abit..the ferrier said that when they are running they sound like jet engines....any ideas or information???
thanks
randy

Talk to your propane dealer, mine gave me an orifice size chart to BTU output. He can also set you up with the right regulator. Sounds like a deal.

Randybruce, I had a couple of Johnson Gas forges from the school district ag shop class. They are very durable but didnt get hot enough for damascus weld heat. I converted mine to propane easily with a orifice from the company. Here is their phone number

hey thanks for the reply
talked with johnson they said that there is no orifice for these models guess they are pretty old. i guess my next step is to go to a propane dealer and get the right regulator for the listed btu's and change over the fittings and see what happens. any idea's on the kind of gas usage i will get on them all i have are the size propane tanks that you use with bbq's
