Thought you guys might like to take a look at this bit of art i made. Forged Crow, from mild steel. Forged from 1/2 inch thick 1 1/2 inch wide, the legs were forged from 1/2 inch round, and the claws/feet were forged seperately from 1/4 round, and all mig welded together. Used my treadle and a little chisel i made from H13 (great stuff) to chisel in all the details, all done while hot. Stands about 4 or 5 inches tall, and is about 8 or 9 inches long. My sister calls it a "desk crow" because it stands on her computer desk.

Nice work Sam... I am a new Yawka too but have never heard of your town. where the heck is it near? I used to work upstate and my family has several acres in Walton or Walden, I forget.

Sam, Sam, Sam.....this is BLADE Forums not BIRD Forums! Did you get confused again? That is so sweet, I wish I had 1/10th of the talent I've seen from you! Sweet!!!

Thanks very much guys! Keith, just use google maps or mapquest, search for area code 12792, Yulan is the 1/2 horse town, too small to even be a one horse town:D. Erik, I had too many windows open again, and got my bird watching forum mixed up with bladeforums :). I have been trying to figure out how to incorporate something like this little guy into blades somehow:D. Luke, i will have a picture soon of my palm whale, little folded wrought iron whale that sits in your hand. If anyone would like i have HIGH res photos you can make out the details quite a bit better.

Yulan is the Chinese word for mountain laurel [ no kidding ] !! Lots of that in the area .BTW Sam , there used to be three blacksmiths in my town ,serving farmers and the canal.Next project is to make a crow who's head, wings and legs can move !

I did not mean to make my little town sound like a bad place, in fact the fact that it is small is what i love about it. Robert i had seen an old "History of Barryville and Shohola" display in the bank across the river, and had seen where the old blacksmith shop stood! And a NOT SO FUNNY happening, the old shop building burned down the same year i was born in Yulan in the house i live in now(1986). One of my dreams would be to get a grant from the state and rebuild the building on the original plot, and open a school:).

You got way too much time and talent. Seriously though, that just gave me an idea for a mean looking cutlass hilt! (thanks TecSec) The head and beak are the upper quillion, the body and tail are the quillionblock and knucklebow, the wings are the gaurdshell
