This thread is for a few purposes.

2" W2 too big for small hammers?
25 lb hammer too small for big work?
How many knives from a 2"x11" W2 bar?

I get a lot of request for info on how to forge large round stock, what size power hammer, etc. And some folks want this W2 in long bars:eek:

Pictures help :)

Could have done this in 2 heats with the 100 but the 25 works just fine :)

More to follow;

Don, that poor little 25 feels inadiquit next to big brother 100!!:( I think you should send it here so it has its own castle!! ;):D

[and you'd have more room to pile steel!!]

Great thread. thanks for the demonstration.
how about this I will buy a bunch of your 2" W-2 and you throw in a 25 little giant.:D

Only kidding of course.

Thanks again for the cool thread!

Good thread Don. Always nice to have someone elses point of view. Yup, sometimes my eyes are a little skewed. Thanks.

Don,
Excellent post, I've had a piece of your W-2 setting on top of the forge for awhile. If the weather does what it is suppose to do this weekend I'll have to run it under my new 25#er. Of course I'll have to make two smaller knives. Instead of one of those monsters you make.

Here's a picture of Don forging 2 1/2" billet of Mosaic under a 25#er at the BAM conference this year. In three heats he had it welded and drawn down to an 1"x1" billet.

Wow!... Just what I was looking for as I get my LG set up.... Thanks for posting....
I was thinking about just how you hold that and forge it out after our conversation the other day...
Pictures really help...
Thanks again....

Dave, I had a blast at the conference this year. I still need to do something with all those pics you sent me.
Hope we can get together at the Little Giant factory again :)

Craig, I was just going to email a link to this but you found it first :)
Hope it helps!

Cool thread Don! Will you show us more of this knife as you do it?
I have to say you did make that look easy.;)
Thanks for sharing.

Mace, I'll try to add more pics, I heat treated the blade today,
so will have to start photo-ing as I finish.

Thanks,

Don, your little 25 must really get after it, ive seen some that would have definitely taken a few more heats to do the same amount of work!
