Does anyone know how to heat treat 10B38F? It is the material John Deere mower blades are made from. Also has anyone used this materail to forge any blades and how well did it do the job?

I am beginning to think the same thing. I have twice heat treated a blade I forged from a peice of lawn mower blade and the file still cuts into it. Guess I had better look for a better piece of steel. l

Try some 1084 from New Jersey Steel Barron. It is easier to heat treat with out all the fancy equipment. I really really recommend it.

With only 0.35-0.42% carbon I doubt it will get over 45Rc. It is 1038 that has been Boron treated.
Should make for good forging practice though.
