It's a little more complicated than some steels. If you get it too hot, it crumbles, if you hit it when it's too cold, it cracks. (And dents your hammer and anvil)
It's also a lot harder at forging temps than most steels.
The real pain of it is annealing it so you can do the remaining cold work. Any holes you want in it, you'll want to punch while it's still hot. That's the one thing I wish I'd known before I played with any.
It's possible, but difficult. Just an opinion of mine..........forging D-2 is like teaching a pig to fetch......I wastes your time, and annoys the pig!
