I'm looking at getting some Forging Glasses and was wondering what every one thinks. i have heard that aur-99 2-2.5 are good but there kinda pricey. thanks

i like a #2 green lens, Crews makes em in an aviator style, flipups are best though.

the green gives you all the protection you need for welding, UV IR etc.

works for me.

remember don't stare into the fire.

General forging #2 is OK, for damascus, go to a #2.5 or #3.
Price is a comparative thing. Think what a seeing eye dog will cost in food alone.

do thy need to be aur99 or will any 2-3 green glass work

Infrared rays are emitted by red hot steel, or other red hot bodies for that matter. Ultraviolet rays are emitted from the arc when arc welding. Buy some cutting goggles from your welding supply, Home Depot, etc. with a #5 lens and you are well protected, both for forging and acetylene welding and brazing. If you are going to fire up an arc welder then you need protection from both IR and UV. Incidentially, most clear safety glasses offer IR and UV protection but I wouldn't want to use them to forge with.
