Forging my first knife

The link posted by Sharp Newbie is one of those Don't Believe Everything You Read On The Internet" subjects. I would like to see Kevin's take on the article...Stacy
:D Well my take is short and sweet- Do yourself a favor and lose that link;) Find a good book on the subject of physical metallurgy and read the chapter on plastic deformation and my brevity will make total sense.

I can't imagine what all us idiots from antiquity to modern industry were thinking actually heating steel when all they had to do was hammer it cold:rolleyes:

I would recommend getting Ed Caffrey's video on Basic Bladesmithing. The videos are available from his website http://www.caffreyknives.net/Videopage.html

There are also videos available from Ed Fowler from his website on his method of Bladesmithing http://www.edfowler.com/thevideo.html

These will give you are good start on the fundamentals and beyond. Making excellent knives does not require a huge shop or expensive equipment.

I would also recommend looking up Tai Goo and the great work he does with the Neo Tribal movement. Tai is a true artist and a master on working with limited equipment.
