forging w1 rounds

W1 round moves pretty easy-I use a 2# hammer for it. I save the 3# and 4# hammers for 52100 and A2.

Please take this as my opinion ONLY

i can swing a larger hammer longer than i care to swing a lighter hammer.

BUT i had to work up to it, and it depends a LOT on proper handle shaping, hammer control, learn to RELAX your grip and use the WHOLE body when swinging etc.

i can swing my 4Lb all day long, i then pull out the VERY dressed 2Lb for light finishing work but i do 90% with the big hammer

Is that the one you pressed out here????

It sure is!

Its awful pretty and will be my camping knife for this year:

Hey not for nuthin' but I just got some 7/8" W1 from enco that was $14&change per three foot bar. It's not much cheaper than but four bucks is four bucks!

Matt

PS I don't even TRY to forge out those Bars by hand, find a friend with a press or a hammer!
