Hey guys. I know I am just a newbie and don't have any of the equipment for forging, but what is a good online resource or book on the theory of bladesmithing. Experience is what I am lacking but I would really like to familiarize myself with the craft. I think it is something I would like to pursue in the future. Thanks.

See if you have a local Blacksmith association. I learned a lot from the one here, and many of the people will bend over backwards to help you get started (at least in mine they did.) I can't recommend this enough.

Darnit, No chapter even close to me.:(

Where are you in Texas? If you didn't already, you can go to the ABANA main site and check through there for local groups (or Google almost always works too.

Surely in Texas there has to be at least ONE bladesmith near you..... I know up in Montana and Wyoming you can't throw a rock without hitting someone banging a blade out on an anvil. :p

If you're starting out with no tooling and if you have minimal budget (like I did) I'd do a search for "primal fires" or "neo-tribal bladesmiths" those guys do everything with a hammer and file and do a lot of tutorials on forging AND they do it cheaply. Look for Tim Lively's videos.

I think Tim Lively moved to Texas, not sure though.
