I sold off a NIB (#19V) Rookie and D4/E4 Waves to purchase a Benchmade. Covered the cost and put a few $ back in my pocket. I've just always wanted a Mini Rukus. I'll miss the Rookie, what a cool knife. The Waves? I suppose if I carried them everyday, but when you aren't paying attention to what's in your pocket, an "auto open" blade can be a little unnerving. Read plenty about the 615/610 clip, we'll see how big of a deal it is.

Forgive me.

how do you like the rukus?
do you have any other spydercos? if not, pick another one up :)
i forgive you.

I have 9 remaining Spyderco's ....
Rukus should be here tomorrow, so no comments on that yet.

Is 9 Spydies and 1 benchmade a bad ratio?
I sold a Full size grip... too plastic, bought an Endura.
I sold a Mini grip to get a Delica G10.

I'm okay, right?

It's the selling of the Spyderco to get a Benchmade. Though the Rookie wasn't the most loved model.

I think it evens out if you sold two benchmades and bought two spydies. The Spyderco/Benchmade ratio you have also helps.

For this sin, you must say 32 Hail Mary's and 64 Our Fathers :p
Of course you could just make a purchase, of a Spyderco Lum, then all your sins will be forgiven.

I've strayed to try another brand knife, but my Spydercos own in the EDC department.
Trying something different always makes me appreciate them much more.

not gonna lie, there are two brands of knives I buy.

1) Spyderco
2) Benchmade

that's about it. BUT IN THAT ORDER, THANK YOU.

although to be honest, my last purchase was a Benchmade. I got a 555HG mini-griptilian. But hey, it's got a hole in the blade, so it's cool right?

To make things better, my every day carry knife is my beloved E4 Emerson Wave, and my NEXT purchase will be a Sage II TiRIL. Handled one today and am going to have to shell out the cash... it's perfect.

Overall, there's only ONE...and we know the answer. :D

To tell you the truth, since receiving the Manix ll, it covers all the bases.
Not to big or small, well built, and great ergonomics, and last but not least one heck of a reasonable price. :D

Okay, so I got the BM 615 today.
Yup, pretty cool, well made, action came around after some use and oil.
Not sure what the fuss about the clip is... it's fine, maybe they've made it better over time, but it's plenty solid, no twisting in hand.

Very first impression? There can be no doubt Spyderco is the KING of function and use. The BM (like the others I've had) is a nice change-up in the EDC rotation, but...

1) Odd shape, thick kinda square handle. Like any new knife, just need some time with it.
2) Just doesn't fit the hand like a Spyderco.
3) Is SLIGHTLY better (axis lock) than the broken-in Manix 2.
4) The black, thick liners are going to look like crap very soon, the black coating will chip easily (my wedding ring (tungsten)) has already made a couple of small marks.

Positives:

1) Rides great and deep in the pocket, lower even than the Manix 2.
2) Clip is fine and fast to put in the pocket. I suppose if I spent a lot of time hanging up-side-down, it *could* come out. Internet reports are exaggerated, IMHO.
3) Blade shape rocks. A great cutter, "almost" a FFG.
4) Rolls hair off with ease... freakin' sharp, no doubt the sharpest out of the box of all my knives.
5) Open, feels good and solid in hand. G10 / Micarta combo is interesting.
6) Fit and finish is top notch, not noticeably better than the 14 Spydies I have or have had.

It's not one that I'll sell or trade, rather enjoy it and how "different" it is, but there can be no doubt, Spyderco has it going on.

If I had to rate it with my large folders?

1) Millie
2) Para and Endura
3) Tie, M2 and the 615 Rukus.

I'm REALLY starting to like the M2... it took a lot of break-in.
I'll comment again after I've had some carry time with the 615.

And yes, I've said all my hail Mary's.

Update: the Rukus cut me good... I own it! Glad that's over with. 3 or 4 soaked band-aides later.. keep in mind, all my knives have cut me, the ones that don't get sold :)

I'm going to try to justify the 2x price of the 615 vs the Manix 2 and post it up. Not sure how well that's going to go. While the Axis lock is smoother than the Manix ball lock, at this point there is no way I can justify twice the price. The Manix is thinner... more heavy duty feeling, the ball lock solid and works well. No matter what, the M2 at $80 delivered (or even $100 delivered) is a hell of a deal... unless of course you are a " I own(ed) a Manix and this is no Manix" type.

More later.
