Okay, so I got the BM 615 today.
Yup, pretty cool, well made, action came around after some use and oil.
Not sure what the fuss about the clip is... it's fine, maybe they've made it better over time, but it's plenty solid, no twisting in hand.
Very first impression? There can be no doubt Spyderco is the KING of function and use. The BM (like the others I've had) is a nice change-up in the EDC rotation, but...
1) Odd shape, thick kinda square handle. Like any new knife, just need some time with it.
2) Just doesn't fit the hand like a Spyderco.
3) Is SLIGHTLY better (axis lock) than the broken-in Manix 2.
4) The black, thick liners are going to look like crap very soon, the black coating will chip easily (my wedding ring (tungsten)) has already made a couple of small marks.
Positives:
1) Rides great and deep in the pocket, lower even than the Manix 2.
2) Clip is fine and fast to put in the pocket. I suppose if I spent a lot of time hanging up-side-down, it *could* come out. Internet reports are exaggerated, IMHO.
3) Blade shape rocks. A great cutter, "almost" a FFG.
4) Rolls hair off with ease... freakin' sharp, no doubt the sharpest out of the box of all my knives.
5) Open, feels good and solid in hand. G10 / Micarta combo is interesting.
6) Fit and finish is top notch, not noticeably better than the 14 Spydies I have or have had.
It's not one that I'll sell or trade, rather enjoy it and how "different" it is, but there can be no doubt, Spyderco has it going on.
If I had to rate it with my large folders?
1) Millie
2) Para and Endura
3) Tie, M2 and the 615 Rukus.
I'm REALLY starting to like the M2... it took a lot of break-in.
I'll comment again after I've had some carry time with the 615.
And yes, I've said all my hail Mary's.
