Forgive me RAT Packers...

Solid revolver. I have a 2 1/2" version my brother is borrowing right now. I may not get it back! Great bedside gun.

Jeff,
+1 on the SP101. Have you seen the new .327 Mag. version? Interesting. The ballistics kind of cross over to other cartridges, but interesting nonetheless. What's your favorite load?

TTD,
I had a 6" 686. It was the most accurate revolver I've ever owned. I sold it for a huge profit but wished I would have kept that one. What's works best in yours?

My 686 is the 6" but Shotty & I traded,I will miss it just like I had a 4" SS GP100 and Traded it.... Looking for another SS Revovler...
I fed my 686 140 gr. Remington J.H.P. ,Dont know if she like it but it was easier on me ,wrist,Ears, pocket book wise...158 or 180 gr was abit to much $$ wise and myself personanlly did not care for 180gr unless I had a 8" barrel 357

I always have the best luck with the 125 gr. varieties.

I agree. My favorite is the SP 101

Which one do you have?
I have the 3" one and IMO it's the finest revolver of its size.
I've consistently shot 2", 15-shot (3 cylinders) groups at 10 yards with the thing. Hard to find a snubby that can shoot that well.

I love that gun, even better than my P-90.
Do you got the 3" barrel?

Man, I don't know if I could say that. I love both. The two P90s I have are extremely accurate (cloverleaf 5/7 rounds at 25 yards on a regular basis), and is very, very easy on the recoil.

Have any of you other Ruger fans noticed something? It seems Rugers like it rough. Ever one I have shoots best with heavy-for-caliber bullets loaded to the firewall. Don't know if this is a general Ruger trait, or just a coincidence.

CPL,
I totally agree. It seems Ruger has hard use and handloaders in mind when designing most of their firearms.

Congratulations. One of the first revolvers I owned was a Security Six with a 6" barrel. It was very well built, accurate and would handle anything you fed it. I eventually sold it so that I could purchase it's bigger brother, the Redhawk .44. I wish that I would have save a little more and kept the Security Six. Great gun. Now start saving for the PFII and the RC-3 MIL, I have them both and they are exellent.

Super nice!!!! I am a firm believer that a good revolver is a necessity.
And no matter how many guns I have, I just cant pass up a good deal..... so no need to ask for forgiveness, I woul have done the same thing.

Thanks everyone. I have never been a big revolver guy, but I decided I was set as far as semi auto pistols are concerned, and that I now needed a big bad six gun. after handling it a lot more, I'm beginning to really like revolvers. Besides, all true Texans need a six gun!

Big sixgun hell! The Service/Securtiy Sixs are small revolvers by Ruger standards! A proper Texan needs a Super Redhawk. Big, beefy revolver, same size and nice, cushy grips as the GP-100. Now there's a gun to lust after!
They also shoot like lasers.

Yeah, I think the Judge is a good choice for self defense in a home. I would probably just load it up with 410 slugs and buckshot (every other round) and let 'er fly if someone was dumb enough to enter my home uninvited while I'm present. It might not kill 'em but it will slow 'em down enough to let me beat the stupidity out of their dumb ass.

Great score! my first revolver was a blued 6" Security Six in .357 with the old wood grips, I love that gun and it loves 125 gr. JHP's.

I agree. My favorite is the SP 101

It is my favorite pistol I own period. I shoot 357 at the range with it all the time. My only complaint is that it is a 5 shot. I put a hogue grip on mine and trijicon nite site. I love the setup... now where is my camera...

I got my Taurus 651 with 300 rounds of ammo, 2 holsters and the taurus speedloader/hard case for 300 bucks. Since then it's been in my pack for bear/lion peace of mind. Stainless finish is great, feeds 38 and 357 both like a charm.

If that Sec. Six had a 6" barrel it'd look just like the one I bought in the early 80's. Sure had a horrible trigger pull though. Wolff Springs help some.

Much prefer the trigger of my S&W M19 ~;-)

arijer.. find your camera! That sounds sweet!

payette.. have you any info on how well .357 does when up against bears? I assume it'd do well against mountain lions, but I thought .357 might just piss a bear off.

Jake, 125 grain Federal SD has enough kinetic energy out of a 2 inch barrel at 15 yards to drop a bear, I mean I've got five rounds and 5 more in a speed loader so... I'd like to get myself a Delta Elite or 10mm S&W 1000 series for my birthday and that will become my carry gun at that point. 5 rounds of .357 sure is better piece of mind than a Kabar...
