Here's a little knife I am working on as of tonight. Been wanting to incorporate bamboo as a handle and this is the prototype. As is I am thinking it's a nice, quick and cheap way to put together a knife, throw on a bit of a turk's head knot or something for a little fancier look. I am thinking this would be a nice steak set with all bamboo handles.

Process went as simple as this:

1 forge, grind, ht, polish/sharpen blade
2 jam into bamboo LOL

I think that the eye pro comment refers to Safety glasses

They are better than a hot poker in the eye.

It is an interesting idea.

I was thinking that the handle was a little skinny and round, but if you are using a chef pinch grip - that wouldn't matter.

I guess bamboo gets bigger too, I have to find some to play with.

S.A.M. - Safety Always Matters, I even have that on Video somewhere. In fact, here it is, right at the beginning of the video, about 10 seconds in.

I like it Sam. What is the overall length? Did you epoxy the handle in?

It would be neat if you could find a small piece of bamboo that had the joint/knot on both ends for the handle.

Hehe it won't win any awards at a knife show, but it's a cool way to make a nice little knife.

Yeah, I got the bamboo from my Girlfriend's yard, I will grab some bigger stuff this time around.

It's 10" overall, I didn't use epoxy it is an incredibly tight friction fit, but I would use epoxy if I sold one. I'll be looking for shorter joint this time around.

It's a kendo gi, I seen pictures of the Japanese guys wearing em while forging and figured I'd give it a try, very comfy roomy and breathes very well.

I wonder if you could work some kind of horn or dark wood spacer right where the blade meets handles. You might be onto something with the bamboo!

Looks much longer than my kendo gi, must be pretty big. That's probably why it is roomy and breathes, otherwise you would be sweating like a pig, they are very thick and heavy.

This is a summer one, got it from ebogu, I am size 5. I will get Alysia my girlfriend to make a pattern from it, then make it from some even lighter material so it could be used in summer.
