Please could someone shed some light on the correct procedurefor using colored formica as linings on handels??

I have never heard of using formica for liners or spacers on handles but i have worked with it a lot. It is brittle so i would use fine belts on it and drill it slow. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome darrync to the forums.
I see no reason why formica wouldnt make great liners. I never thought of it before. Robert is right about it being brittle but that shouldnt be much of a problem. Just use sharp bits and belts so it doesnt burn on the edges. From the edge view it only comes in one color right?

Formica is a laminate, and only the top portion contains the color.

Bill is pretty much right- almost all p-lam is a thin layer of colored material laminated onto multiple layers of paper backing. The backing itself is pretty drab, but has a somewhat interesting look to it (streaky grey-brown).

There are some specialty through-body colored laminates on the market. Formica's is called ColorCore. It's been quite a while since I've handled a piece of it but I recall it feeling more like plastic than ordinary laminate.

Edit: You can order a 4x10 sample here.
