Fort turner iroquois hawk and camp hawk

The micro chips are nothing just a little under sharpend no big deal coulda just left them but i like my edge as smooth as i can get it. Your choice in hawks is up to you i picked the irouquis cause i dont really need a poll and if need to pound something in i just find a rock . The whole head is coal forged no welds .

Sorry the way I said that didn't come out right. I meant I'm not sure if I should go for a hawk with the sleek head finish that looks nice and done up or the ones from for turner that look rougher and more old school.

Nothin to be sorry abought im a little out of it today cant get rid of this cold danas hawks are little rough compared to some of the custom ones im sure thats to keep the cost down. I kinda like the look myself but i did mod my frontier hawk to smooth more finished look. I guess you could do the same with a turner hawk lotta work though.

Does it effect the integrity?

I think it was my own fault that it was chipping...

Were you using it against something other than wood? Or did you possibly profile it very thin?

No I was not. It was not thin whatsoever. It acually ended up being that it was tempered to hard, probably in the mid 60s on the HRC scale.
I am gong to send it back. Its all good:)

This kind of worries me to buy. are a lot of them over hardened?

No. He says he has never even heard of this happening. He is a really cool guy to deal with, and his customer service is top notch! I highly recommend his hawks, I just got a lemon. Even the best makers produce lemons every now and then. It happens:)

Good to know. I messaged him asking if I could have a custom hammer polled norse so we'll see.

Sorry to here abought your hawk Woodsplitter but at least hes gonna take care of you from what i understand he will back up his hawks for as long as he is still makeing them not much more you can ask of anybody. So i take it reprofileing the edge didnt help did it continue to chip? Cheers Rich

I have a ft turner iriquois hawk that i am very happy with, you can run into long wait times but with the prices its hard to complain. I have had no problems with any kind of chipping in mine at all.

The only thing i hammer in the woods is tent pegs or wedges and i havent run into any problems with the head of my hawk deforming to much; so for me it isnt an issue. If i need ot really hammer on something i use a rock. If you feel you will need to hammer alot, just buy one of danas other hawks that have a hammer pole or one of the offerings that coldsteel provides.

Dana is exceptional to deal with. He forged a Iroquois for me that weighs 19oz total as per my request :) Its light and fast for a fighter.
I've had it for a few months, but once I actually get a chance to use it (light chopping) I will post a review.

My wait time was around 4-5 weeks from memory. It's an outstanding piece for the price.

The heads are 1095 edge welded to a 1020 body.
