Forty-Point knives

Has anyone used her knives in the field? I was wondering how they hold up. The design lends itself more to kitchen duty, but I would think they are durable enough for common field/ camp tasks.

She posted some pics on instagram, batoning.

Judy, what are the model names and specs on the pairs of knives that are circled? These aren't listed on your website.

Thanks Vance, I was wondering if the larger one was the Jack model. I like it, but to me the smaller one looks like a bushcraft knife with an Asian flair, and I'm wanting one with an earth tone synthetic handle when I can swing it.

Yup, the bigger one is Jack. I named the other circled model Wednesday. I have plenty of earth tone corian, so you might see one soon!

Judy, how durable is corian? As in susceptabilty to chipping when being bumped into or even dropped onto rocks? Is it similar to micarta and G-10?

This is the environment I usually work in, often with my daughter, and almost always with my camera. The rocks can get slick, and if I have to choose between my daughter or $2,500 in camera equipment getting damaged or my knife, it's always the knife...and most of my knives have been dropped more than once, and I wouldn't even try to guess the number of bumps and scrapes...

Mistwalker, this might help:

http://www2.dupont.com/Surfaces_Com...ulletins/Performance_Properties_of_Corian.pdf

They dropped a .5 lb ball on it from 12' and did not fracture the material.

And it took 10,000 psi to fracture it under load while bending. This is around 40000-50000 for G10. Should be resistant to minor impact. No real world stories to share here.

It appears that G10 is more bendable but that Corian should be able to take greater impact without chipping. Then again, if it hits the right rock at the right angle, who knows.

Notably, G10 and Micarta are porous and can become saturated with liquids. Corian is nonporous and could be considered a better choice for wet environments, or in a filet style knife with food safety as a concern.

Apparently, they could put out cigarettes on it and wipe them off no problem :emot-yarr: Somehow I doubt the immediate relevance of this test for knifemaking purposes - but useful for hotels to know.

See it used a look for tables, sinks and even cutting boards. It depends a little on the type used.

I asked a good friend of mine, Paige Hinshaw of STATUARY, to design and make several sheaths for my knives. I finally received them earlier this week and I am really just excited to show these beautiful sheaths off to everyone! She uses this unique marbling technique to dye the leather, which is something you don't see quite often in sheaths. I hope you all find them as intriguing as I have!

Hmmm... now we can get a matching purse and sheath from Statuary... Very creative and fitting collaboration!

The corian on that blade really gives it a nice starlike quality. Someone is going to get lucky.

I'm loving this thread guys. Thank you for supporting all of the Fiddleback Family of knifemakers. I'm so proud to have been able to help Judy learn to make knives. It didn't take much though, she's a natural.

I really like how the angle of the tip of the blade and the butt of the handle on that Jack look like they match. Your knives have some killer flow to them!

Judy is a great craftsman and great to work with. I think she's really setting herself apart with her style. I have some pictures of Celeste, (a ZERO model), which I plan to post very soon.
As soon as I figure out how....
It's a beautiful knife and everyone I've shown her too has agreed. It's my current go to EDC blade right now. I plan to continue to purchase Forty-Point knives and I expect more head turners coming down the pipe very soon.

I recently purchased a Jack from Judy for my wife, and now I want one for me too. I can't say enough great things about the fit, finish, and ergos of the knife. It's fantatic work. Here's a pic:

Makes me want to listen to AC/DC's "She's got the Jack".

Hahahha yes!! We definitely need matching purses to the sheaths

Thank you! I try to mirror lines in my knife designs to create flow like you mentioned.

Where do I get one? That is beautiful!
Check out my website (fortypointknives.com) or my instagram (instagram.com/fortypoint I can't seem to get these url links to work..) to see if there's anything you'd like and email me if you do! Otherwise, check the Fiddleback Friday threads for the apprentice knives. We try to post one every week along with the Fiddleback batch.

Sure am, is it tapered?
It sure is!
