The forum is running slow lately. This is causing you folks to repeatedly hit the "POST" tab . Only hit it once. If you hit it three times you will make three posts. It can take 30 seconds or longer for a post to show right now.

Once you have hit "POST" or "SAVE CHANGES" , wait
about 5-10 seconds and just go on to whatever you want to read/do next. Your post will show up in a short while.

LATELY? Going on a year of lately. This is the new normal for BF so it seems. :(

Good advice nonetheless. Post and pause

Keep reading

Only way I know I've posted is to reload the page. At which time I see the iterations of my post. I'm waiting minutes before adding to the post and Saving or POST REPLY.

At least I know that something is happening even though I can't see it.

Sorry - at least 2 more posts to follow.

Having said that - Now for example, I just tried to post this comment. I watched the little status bar, top right, do its thing. When it stopped my post was still in the concept mode. SO - I POST REPLY - AGAIN, just as we are asked not to do. Little status bar scrolls around. Still nothing. BF is becoming sensitive to negative commentaries. :) It is now a thinking entity

Yikes - 3 times. Maybe I will get a triple post!!! :poop:

This is ridiculous...we pay for craftsman memberships that we can't use to upload pics that members wouldn't be able to see anyway...not to mention the thousands of Gold members who can't upload pics either...been going on for WAY too long without getting the attention/priority it deserves.

This is ridiculous...
I hope this is in jest.

I can't remember ever having any problems uploading pics in the last 5-6 years.

I guess we all should assume that this new-ish technology should be perfectly foolproof (good luck with that) and the folks who are volunteering their time to maintain the program/site and keep up with the internet updates, all the cyber phishing attacks, power failures, etc are not doing their job? Oh wait, this isn't their job.
This reminds me of one of my housemates who regularly throws a tantrum when their computer freezes, while at the same time, they have a 7 y/o computer with 20 browsing tabs open (multiple ones on Youtube), while watching a movie that's using the same signal as our internet provider, and there's 2 other people in the house also using the same internet provider and one of them also has their TV on most of the day...
Also, I think this happens only once or twice a year, and I'm OK with that.

No, it's not in jest...read the tech support thread, it's a known issue that has been going on for almost a year with no permanent solution. We pay money to be able to advertise and conduct business on Bladeforums, if we can't post and users are driven away by intolerable page load times and glitch posts it's a problem that NEEDS to be addressed.

After looking at the thread you linked to, one of the things that stands out to me is there doesn't seem to be a consistent pattern (time of day, location of user, detail of exact problem: some complain of slow load times, some complain of pics not showing, some complain of ads....) other than the folks who are complaining. I'm not saying here that they aren't having issues. But if the only thing that's consistent is the user, then the first thing I would look at to fixing is the device those users are browsing with. And not necessarily assume the blame is with the operators, especially if there are a lot of folks who don't experience the above problems. (I'll add that I don't know the ratio of folks who are affected v those who aren't, but like I said above, I've rarely had issues with this site, and, unfortunately, I've logged on almost every day at various times throughout the day in the past couple of years.)

Personally, I think it is Chinese malware getting even with BF for all the bad things we say about Chinese knives and them ripping off out makers.

Yes, the issue has been around for a while, but it has only been this severe in spurts. Now is one of those spurts.

Maybe it is because I am older and don't mind waiting as much as others. I remember my first computer ... a TRS80 Mod1 ... that took 6" floppy disks and it took up to an hour to load a program. It took f minutes to print a few pages on the track-paper printer. It took 15-20 minutes to upload or download something - over the phone lines at 8K/s

This post went up in about 2 seconds.

I was thinking the same thing, being older and able to deal with not having instant gratification all the time. And I remember the TRS-80, but we used cassette tapes before the floppy discs.

The problem is NOT on the users end...that has been firmly established in the TS thread:rolleyes:

And again...it's not just a matter of being patient, I haven't been able to get a single pic to upload today even though they are WAY under the file size limit. I'm more than capable of waiting for a post to load to avoid double posting...trying to blow this off as "young impatience" is frankly insulting.

I can usually do what I want to do, but I agree that given the business side and the number of paying members, an aggressive IT support solution (hardware/software) should be pursued. My biggest frustration is that people like Coop have given up posting pictures. Poring over his thread with my son is something I miss.

I'm glad for you weo weo that you have missed all the aggravation - your experience notwithstanding - it is real and has gone on way too long. Not a problem caused from my end or a result of my impatience. BF, as a smooth operating forum, has changed for the worse, radically in the last year. I have no issues with any other web browsing or on the 2 other forums on which I participate. WValtakis WValtakis makes points that are valid and well founded and not based on simply smug opinion.

Well, the problem seem gone now. I only noticed it for about a day. Last night and this morning were the really bad times. I spent two hours removing double, triple, quadruple, and quintuple posts. They would see the result and edit the posts to reflect the multiples. What was funny was that some of them were from the same people who had done it over and over again for several hours. You would think they would stop hitting the POST tab repeatedly .... but Noooo.

Wvaltakis - I think people were just musing about how things have changed / improved over time, and how expectations have changed, and not making comments about anyone in particular.

There are a number of ways of hosting a website. One of the most common is a “shared server “ where multiple websites are hosted on a single server. The problem is that if someone else’s website sees a huge load (or is hacked and hijacked, or is subjected to a denial-of-service attack), then it sucks up all the cpu cycles, and your website then slows down. That might be what is happening here.

the only real solution is to buy a dedicated server, which is MUCH more expensive (which means your membership fees would go WAY up.

pick your poison....

Coop pointed out the tedious multi step process for posting pictures using a hosting site. This is not related to the slow downs. Posting pictures is always tedious, but the slow downs are sporadic and only occur for me on this site. I cannot peg this to any of my devices (6) or either of my sources of signal (wi-fi and cellular data).
