Attention FORUM IS RUNNIUNG SLOW LATELY

Is this site maintained by volunteers or employees? If I wanted to volunteer to help, who would I contact?

Sparks posted that the problem over Thanksgiving was apparently caused by a full hard drive. The issues noticed by the end users included slow response time, including posting delays and lockups, the lost of our search function, failure to upload images, failure to deliver messaging, and finally a crash which appears to have left the forums offline for 15-20 minutes.

These are not user related issues , nor are they trivial. I don't know what has been causing the problems but I hope these issues can be overcome.

None of this is surprising for BF. This forum still feels like 2005, and the owner seems more than happy charging people for a dated experience that lacks most modern forum features that even forums that have no paid membership levels offer. Cheap hosting of this paid forum is just the icing on the cake :)

To be fair we don’t know if any of that applies. We could just be victims of our own success. We have accumulated a lot of data over our 22 years and for all I know our member and nonmember participation may still be expanding rapidly. The root cause of the problem could be the Xenforo software, the servers, the hosting bandwidth of just weak administration of the site.

I would like to see the site grow to include vastly improved photo and video hosting, a stronger Instagram-like messaging ability, to add the ability for sound and wave audio, and of course improved stability and performance. Ever since photopoint cut everyone off we likely have hundreds of thousands of calls to non-existant images. We also have ads running which may presents its own hurdles; who knows how this may be affecting the site. We may also be under intentional attack by spammers or even those who disagree with our hobby. The bottom line is we don’t know and we shouldn’t leap to conclusions.
