Forward lanyard hole BK9???

I was thinking of making one mod to my 9, drilling a hole for a lanyard just in front of the handle.

Has anyone done this, and do you think this would be a stupid thing to do?
I have the Crowell Barker comp chopper, and I feel more comfortable using a forward lanyard..
All ideas and answers are welcome...

Trade: thanks that was very helpfull, got some good ideas there.
If they don`t work for me, I have a drillpress and a set of good drillbits (allong with the cooling oil)..
But the suggestions in that thread looked like great ways to do this without compromising the construction of the blade..

I think it would be an interesting mod. Be sure and post some pics when you get it done.

If anything, you could drill a hole through the handles and put in a piece of steel tubing. That'd work quite well.

The old Blackjack BK5 had a hole is that something like what you're thinking about? Probably closer to the back edge of the knife instead of the blade side though, I'd imagine.

Rock: that is almost what I think. Just move the hole about a 1/4" from the top of the blade instead. Just between the thumb-ramp and the handle...

I like the "Crowell " style lanyard hole placement a lot....I have in fact been meaning to ask Mr. Jim if I can steal the idea for future designs.......

All Best....

Ooh oh, the boss himself chiming in on my thread, thank you very much Mr Becker, it`s an honor indeed.
I`ve got to say, I just received my first Beckers two days ago, and you have out together some fine pieces of cutlery.
I have had several different brands the last couple of years, but nothing has been so nice to handle like the 9.
I also got the 11 and 13, and I`m starting a sheath for them tonight. (Multiple carry-options and piggy, both for 11 and 13+ firesteel)

I have to say that I`ve always liked the Crowell-style lanyard placement, I feel it`s more secure (But that`s just my oppinion, LOL...)

Especially since the logo isn't going to be roll stamped any longer. Leave a nice, clean place for it.

I`ve been looking at that, and I think if I drill a hole, it would be right between the logo and the handle.
The way my hand fits the handle, that would be about the perfect place me thinks...

I have one of those leather sheaths with the hole, can't bring myself to drilling a hole as I'm a southpaw.
Were I am member of the great unwashed, I'd have drilled it in a heartbeat.
Just kidding about you right handed folk.

Yo....

Brother Crowell makes stuff that works........Smart, very skilled, a guy who uses what he designs, ugly, very willing to share what he knows(and that's a lot) what's not to like?...I really admire him and his work....

All Best.......

I just have to win the lottery soon, so that I can take the trip over the pond to spend some time with the Beckerheads on a gathering.
you guys have to be the top of the line, never had such a good respons or good feeling in any other forums I`ve been visiting, LOL..

But comming to think of it, maybe a rouge Becker-wielding Viking would be too much:cool::rolleyes:

HMM, when I think about it, from what I`ve heard, the Beckerheads would possibly make me look like a kitten. HAHAHA

sounds like a useful mod, altho I being a semi-worrywart wld try the non-permanent thru the scales technique First to see how I liked it Before I drilled holes in my knife LOL but hey, if'n ya wants to do it...go for it. I like the concept, never cared for rear lanyards but a forward lanyard, now that makes more sense.

Me thinks the hole will be drilled Friday, I will post pics (of course)
If not I think one member here said: Pics or your pants will be on fire:eek:

As is the common saying around here, pic or you are a teller of untruths.
Teller of untruths, teller of untruths, your trousers have combusted!

Yes I know, I have the pants hosed down with water just in case, haha
I will drill the hole Friday, that's when I get off work early, so I can get to my shop.:/

Help wanted, tried to drill the holt today (no luck)...
Every type drillbit I tried did nothing to the 9, awesome heattreat that`s for sure...

Anyone have an idea of what to try next, aven tried the ones the locksmith uses to drill locks in appartment doors, it just barely made a mark before it went dull.......
