Once in a while I get something really nice, and this is one of them. The problem is, it's a really nice piece as it is but it would really make some awesome handle material. This is a fossil walrus head mount, the tusks have 19 inches of exposed ivory, I didn't put this one together so I can't say how much ivory is in the sockets. The tusks are 7/8 by 5/8 inches one inch from the tip and 1 7/8 by 1 1/8 at the thickest point, perfect for knife handles. The colors are yellow and brown with quite a bit of the dark cobalt blue we like. The skull still has many of the teeth in it and it has the bottom jaw. The overall hieght of it is 26 1/2 inches. This one is really pretty, and the price is pretty reasonable. I am asking $1,500 for it, plus shipping. As always, it has a money back gaurantee, I take all the normal forms of payment, Paypal, credit cards or checks. I am happy to answer any questions and I charge only the actual shipping charges, this one will certainly be insured. Thanks for looking. Hope you like it. Please respond here, PM or email. SOLD to Dan

Well....From a naturalist point of view, It would be a shame to cut it...!

BUT......If you cut it....well I'll be watching/hoping...!!!

Well, you understand the dilemma. :D In a strictly monitary sense it is probably worth more as a specimen than its raw materials are worth, unless you made nice knives with it, then it could be a lot more. And, we like knives here. :D and we don't see this kind of ivory very often...

Yup, I do. The best thing to do in a case like this...when uncertain....is to wait..
( doggone-it...can't believe I wrote that)....

mother natures work of art the way it is, man o man what beautiful handles it would make though, i dont think i would wont to play the denist role on this one,i think you should leave it as is,someone will pick up the mount for that price

I am not sure why my pictures changed to the un-edited versions, I did everything just like I always do. I will try again.

Fixed it.

Cut it! Cut it! (I'm only saying that because I would love a chunk of it:D)

It's pretty cool as is though.

As nice as the handles would be... with THAT type of specimen, I gotta say leave it be. That is just too amazing as is.

Mark, I will take them. Will call you later today and get the payment thing done and work on shipping.

Thata boy dano, you just saved me some pain on the rear pocket, ive looked at these 20 times,i just didnt want to part with that much cash right nowm i think there well worth what marks asking

Sure is purty though

No doubt about it   Fantastic piece !!

Mark, I'm trying to learn something here. In regards to the ivory tusk, isn't there a name for the grooves these tusks show at the ends ??

What are they caused from and what do you call them ??

Thanks for your time and thanks for posting this. You always have the coolest "stuff" ;) :)

It would be an absolute shame to cut these. Tried buying them...but they were spoken for :( so, that being said...this set (retail/collector/specimen value wise as a complete skull) is worth MUCH MORE then any value it would add cut up as knife handles. Sometimes it's better to leave an item for it's natural beauty then to destroy it to create beauty.

For those of you who dont want this cut, it wont be. It is for display only.

I respect your right to do with your possessions as you wish, but I am thankful that this amazing piece will be preserved for future generations.

You're a good man, Dan.

Dan, I agree with the other posters that 1.) preserving it is the correct thing to do and 2.) you paid for it, you can use it as you wish.

Having said that, that ivory would sure look SWEET on one of your damascus bowies :D I also hope to pick up one of those when my funds allow.
