Found 6 GeoCache's Today - what a blast.

Yeah I figured it out. Learned a lot abut my GPS. It put me within 10 feet of each cache. My GPS is not easy to learn. Its a Lowrance h20 meant for fishing.

Mine was very easy to learn - and I still have little clue about all of what it can do.

Good job using a fishing GPS to have some fun. Within 10 feet is REALLY good.

Think of Geocaching are as an adventure for pirate treasure hunting ..... Like it was said a few times already.. You find and see places that you would never even know. I got my self climbing up dry waterfalls, getting into more PO then a human should be allowed.. Found my self late in the day when it getting dark with 3-4 hours of hard hiking to get back to the car... I would recommend to go paperless down load all the Caches in the area and if you feel like you got some time just go...

I have to tell you - this has really opened up my living and hiking in this area. There is a lot more to be seen than I thought.

Thanks a million, man!

I only knew a little about GeoCaching, so after your post this morning, I visited the website and registered. I went and asked the kids if they wanted to try it. Next thing I knew, we had been out for 6 hours hiking, found 3 of 4 caches, and had a ball. Also found a really cool, maintained trail within a few miles of our house we had never even knew existed and a historical landmark we had never visited. We had loads of fun and will be doing more of it. Plus, we only ran into a few "muggles"! Ha!:D

Ejes,

You are welcome! I now know of two new hiking areas, and a fishing area I had NO clue about. They are little pockets in my suburban hell - but they are there - and I will use them.

I placed two caches tonight too!

My wife enjoyed going and now wants to do do more. She likes to put the coordinates in her automobile gps to get us there then she lets me use the handheld to find the cache.

I cant figure out how to put the coordinates in the Lowrance h2o. I write them down on paper then do some zigzagging to pinpoit it.

Can you connect the Lowrance to your computer?

There are usually plug ins on Geocaching.com to get it to your GPS - but whatever - you are figuring it out!

I have the same gps and that's what I do as well...it gets easier, except that you have to write down all the numbers before you head out for a multiple cache. I use a small "rite in the rain" notepad as a geocaching logbook.

I recently got into this myself and have had a Blast playing. Some of the code games are freakin hard! But others are just fun to solve.
I just got an iPhone and have not had it out on the search yet, has anyone used theirs ? How is the resolutuion?

There are a couple apps for the iPhone. Geocaching.com has it's own app, which at $10 is more expensive than most apps, but well worth it. You can also get a generic GPS program like Motion X and plug in the coordinates yourself.

The Official Geocaching App is stellar. It intergates the compass, Google Maps, and Google Earth. There's no more manually adding coordinates either, as it uses the "locate me" feature to figure out caches nearby. It then generates a list of them. Everything is available on the app too (logs, notes, found its, hints). But be warned; it KILLS your battery. I went from 100% to 40% in three hours using it.
