I found this Buck 317 knife at a distant relatives yard sale. It has the original box, paper work, and numbered sheath. It has the serrated second blade and seems in brand new condition. I was wondering the value on it and when it was made. I am trying to figure out how to post the pics. could i email them to someone?

Best place to find value is eBay. Use their Completed Items search feature to find out what similar knives have sold for recently. Be sure to compare the selling price of knives that are also in the original boxes and in unused condition.

sorry for the quality took with my iphone, also forgot to mention I also have the other piece of paper from Mr.Buck.

As the story goes the owner was a samples manufacturer, like pens and lighters with a companies name etc. Well his wife worked for American Commercial barge lines which commissioned him to make these buck knifes. The sheath is still marked 317 on the back. And the flag is the companies logo.

If one of these guys writes you a private message, don't answer it....only talk to me. I am the only one you can trust concerning these 300 series knives......especially with these guys...... : - )

First thing, if you are the one that put the swirl marks on the bolsters, don't polish with whatever you used. Use only Flitz or Mothers Alum wheel polish.....

You have a collectable with decent value.....lets just say if I walked into a garage sale and saw that I might wet my pants.....

If you have any more questions send ME a private message

As I have noted previously, I am not a great folder fan. I do, however, look at folders and a number of 317s. Is the serrated second blade a common feature on 317s?

Telechronos:):):)

I have seen very, very, few with that serrated blade, but Buck had them made....and I need one, and only one, mind you....I try not to be too greedy:rolleyes:;)

Now that's a serrated blade that I would find useful, unlike the partially serrated ones. There's enough length there to really use in a sawing motion.

A Camillus made model that came out in 1972 and I suspect those serrated blades came along sometime during that year . Scott, I as well have seen very few of those . Like one . Thanks Mcox and flat for showing us . DM ;)
