Found a debris hut in Myakka

I was in Myakka State Park (in Florida) a couple of weekends ago, in one of my favorite hammock-camping stealth spots. I woke up on the first morning, went looking for the bathroom, and came across a nicely-constructed debris hut.

It was based on a fallen tree. It had arched ribs so that the finished shelter was roughly like an igloo -- but with sawtooth palm fronds in place of snow.

There was a log (or branch) across the threshold.

Guess I'm not alone out there any more.

He's probably out building little palm huts for other to find. :)

Definitely not. I go canoeing there a couple times a year and plan on doing some tent camping with the family (they're strictly tent/campground campers). I've come across a handful of debris shelters in the county parks and state forest where I spend some time, including a rather large teepee shaped hut made of driftwood. Probably other folks testing skills or camping where it's otherwise prohibited..not that I would ever do such a thing..
