Forgot that when we moved into our house 4 years ago, i found a knife. Refound it yesterday. I believe it is a Case trapper (2 large blades, clip and spey), jigged bone handles, nickel silver hardware. It looks well "loved". I dont have pix (yet), but it will be riding in my pocket replacing the Evo Jr I usually carry. It is nice to get away from the black bladed knives sometimes in favor of a traditional slip joint. It had a burr worked up so all i had to do is touch it up to get it lazer beam sharp! Looks like a higher carbon blade d/t the presence of a nice patina forming on it. I don't know much about Case XX knives, but I really like this one! :D

My little brother found an old, closed but still rusted up pretty good, slipjoint in one of my fathers fields. I wanted to take pics of it, he hasn't been able to find it yet. I forget the manufacturer, but she is old. I think a muskrat design? Squirted some Militec in there, opened up after a couple seconds, needs a good cleaning.

Gotta love those classics. I agree, it is nice to have an alternative to a "tacti-cool" folder. My EDC is SAK Huntsman. Less intimidating in social situations, a lot of tools to use daily. Now if I can just figure out a use for the "mystery hook."

I hear ya about the sheeple...but honestly this thing is bigger than that evo jr...hehe  i cleaned it up the best i could (@ work) but some elbow grease at the house should really help this beaut!

Crappy cell phone pic:

Used a mouse to demonstrate the size of it.

:thumbup:Be careful how much and what you clean it up with. Some of the older Case trappers are worth a considerable amount of money. Particularly the ones with "Case XX" and no dots on the tang. Enjoy it. Old slipjoints are cool.--KV

I just bought a Case Medium Stockman from KSF. Very nicely finished. Blades very sharp, hollow ground tho. I just wish the clip point blade was a little taller. It is a long narrow blade. I do like the pen knife blade.

Your trapper looks like a little more useful size.

Holy crap...this is a Case XX w/ no dots....

Wait strike that is a Case XX but with dots under the U.S.A.

Sheeple seem to be more accepting of old knives, regardless of size. It makes no sense, but then again so little Sheeple behavior does.

Enjoy that knife. You found it for a reason. Clean it, carry it, use it, pass it along when you are so inclined.

Well spoken my good man.

I plan on using this beaut as an EDC. I also think it will make a good combo paired up w my Deerslayer, more of a traditional type carry. Usually id carry my BK11 and the Evo...

Mystery hook?

You mean the gut hook used for cleaning small game?

You make a small cut with the blade, then use the hook so you don't cut the intestines and stomach and spill the ingredient contained therein on your newly acquired dinner. It is called a "Huntsman" after all.

Edit:

Well what do you know? they do call it a "parcel hook" !

I have seen similar hooks used on rabbits and fowl many times and made the assumption, albeit a wrong one!

I've always used my "hook" for skinning wabbits. Had no idea it coud be used for carrying parcels!

The dots are a way to tell what year it was made. I have a jig bone trapper, carbon steel. Medium folder. One of the many knives I have. Kind of heavy in the pocket. A neck pouch for it might be the ticket.

Nice Case! I visited Bradford PA not too long ago, stopped by the Zippo/Case museum. Now I'm a member of the Case Collectors Club (Christmas gift from the girlfriend.)

Congrats on the cool find!

Apologies to theedge13, I did not mean to hijack your thread. Thanks to everyone who chimed in on the mystery hook. I did a Google search and came up with these links:

http://www.hanbueckers.de/images/14b-Mehrzweckhaken.jpg - parcel hook
http://www.hanbueckers.de/images/14a-Mehrzweckhaken.jpg - tent peg puller
http://www.hanbueckers.de/images/14a-Mehrzweckhaken-Kopie.jpg - sardine can opener

in addition to other suggestions including gutting hook, button hook, shoe lace tightener, beer can popper, fish carrier (hook it under the gill) small game carrier, shopping bag carrier, stuck zipper leverage tool, bike chain remover and re-installer, pipe bowl reamer (I think the awl would work better for this) corset lace tightener at Ren Faire, coat hanger

my wife just read this and gave me the classic look and said "Oh come on." She added, tonsillectomy tool and dog discipline device (don't ask me how, I think i would rather not know)
