Found this anvil! The face is probably 36" x 6" and it is very heavy. Good rebound and good ring but as you can see there are no rounded surfaces anywhere. Any idea about where it came from, homemade or commercial? It can be mine if I can just figure out how to get it home. Should I? Right now I use a smallish 70 pounder which really works OK for what I do.
Thanks, Steve

Your photos are not showing up. There are some changes since the new format was installed, so make sure the links are right. Or, you may need to get your photobucket account back online. I think I read that they now require a paid account to do third party hosting.

Simplest way to post the image is to put it on your computer and then attach that file to the post.

Looks like it's made from an I beam, or something similar? I'd take it home for free, but wouldn't pay much for it.

Yeah looks like an I beam to me as well. Not to heavy, just drag it out. Never pass up free metal but I would not pay for that.

Thanks guys for your thoughts. BTW I just checked on "upgrading" my photobucket account to allow what they call "third party posting". $399. I don't think so! I'll find another way.

OK, from what I can extrapolate from the photo ( using 36X6" as the top), an I-beam that size is about 200 pounds. Probably 1018, and not hardened. It will certainly work as an anvil.

One thing that will work very well is to place your 70 pounder on it and make some cleats or clamps that will bolt through the holes. This will give you a large area in front of your good anvil for hot cutting and heavy pounding/drawing, and the hardened anvil face for shaping and detailed forging. It will effectively make your little anvil work like a 200 pounder.

To move that ASO safely, place two 5" long pieces of 1" pipe on each side. Tape them together at each end with several wraps of duct tape. This will give you handles on the ends to have two people lift and carry it.
