found hatchet head, can use restoration and rehandling advice

Goldenberg?
Here is a thread from 2014 that references them.

Are those maybe two "eyes" at the end of the company name?
Thanks for the links, great info.
My guess is that the quality mark before the name is the swans mark below.
At the end of the company name looks like number 86, maybe the year it was made?

Very nice.

If I may, next time you can skip the vinegar bath and go straight to a brass wire wheel. After trying both vinegar and electrolysis, I find most pieces to respond very well to this treatment.

as it's Goldenberg branded you found a nice tool! all the number of eyes means pretty Nothing if you Don't Believe in, such as i do! 2 yeux , 1 œil , un cygne, a bee what a farce!

Not the same but similar Spanish made carpenter's hatchets with oval eyes.

Left one has a hammer type wedged handle that appears to be original, the right one has a slip-through handle that's most certainly original.

Funny as it may seem, or not, I have recently seen on one old film from the archives such hammers in action to illustrate their multi-functional character. And I almost thought at the time, "here it comes evidence of that notch actually getting put to use", I was disappointed on that front however.

Nice video  .
He's using it for shuttering, but as well as carpenters hatchets Ive heard them called shingle or roof hammers/hatchets also.

A shuttering hammer, I add this one on my list. Yes, I'm inclined to label it a hammer rather than axe or hatchet, so its suitability here among axes is in question.

it'a slip thru hatchet meaning the whole handle passes thru the eye while assessing, but it can also be assessed usual way. this pattern is very common in France . somewhat a version of a house hatchet for making kindling and a Hammer face to drive some wedge to split wood for the oven/stove

this hatchet was singing in the bushes so you spotted it, we still have the recording of that moment:

Next step in my hatchet restoration project..

Made a wedge from oak (took me a few to get on right with a hand saw)

Made a saw cut in the top, put the head on, hammered in the wedge with a drop of glue.
(exiting moment).

Cut the wedge off, the result made me very exited so far :)

Now to put an edge on this thing...

First attempt to an edge, need to refine it some more but I'm please with it so far, it was a massive reprofiling / sharpening job.
Hurray for diamond stones :D
