For a while now, I have been thinking about my first knife, a Buck model 303 cadet pocket knife that my dad got for me when I was five or six years old. I hadn't seen it in years, and figured it was gone forever. While visiting my parents yesterday, I asked if either of them had seen it laying around. They both said that they hadn't, but my dad mentioned that he had found an old beater pocketknife of mine while going through some boxes. Lo and behold, it turned out to be my old Buck, covered in unspeakable grime and filth-- my dad didn't even recognize that it was a Buck
I couldn't open any of the blades, so I soaked it in WD-40. I figured it was pretty much ruined, but after soaking for a bit, most of the gunk wiped right off. When I got home, some soap and water, green 3M pads, and a little 600 grit sand paper took care of the rest. I sharpened it up on the sharpmaker, lubed it, and polished it up. Now it is almost as good as new. My collection sure feels more complete now that I have my first knife back.
