Well "440 steel" is cheap noname steel (who knows which one in each case), so you don't have top worry about that.

Why don't you tell us what is wrong with the Buck Vantage lock so we can tell you if this one is similar?

cheap knife, no name 440 steel. worse it could be 440a or 440b, even if it were 440c it would be very soft and not last very long edge retention wise. do you know how to sharpen? cause your going to have to do alot of sharpening.

its also a liner lock on a cheap knife. ive seen these fail many times before, not specifically this brand, just saying, it could fail and it will be bad if it does. it looks like a mtech, made in china sold in usa. says country of origin usa, is that even true? was it made here?

440c steel is a better grade of 440, if it is indeed 440c, they would definitely want the potential buyer to know that. Most likely it is 440a since the description simply says 440.

For $25 I'd go with a Kershaw or other established brand. I suspect you'd get much better overall quality out of, say, a Cryo II than this knife.

If they aren't specifying, it is probably 440A. That being said, I agree with the above. If they aren't going to tell you what it is, would you trust them on other stuff?

How about a Cold Steel Recon 1 spear point? You can get it in XHP, which will definitely perform better than this 440 mystery steel.

Also, there is the Benchmade Valet, which is a bit shorter (1/4"), but has an M390 blade steel and an Axis lock while looking a bit similar (but better, imho).

This knife is made in the USA by Bear & Son cutlery, and their knives aren't total garbage so I'd check it out for the price if I were you.

It's only 25$, and since nobody here has any experience with it, you just gotta be the guinea pig.

No it isn't.

It isnt locking up. Any china knife i had was all meanings better knife. I had mini too and its blade crushed edge over standoff

i searched all shops a ton of times. I know all models. I had cryo and steel handle weighs much for second knife and cold for russia
Cold Steel Recon 1 s
i dont like recon shape. I would buy swift if hkwey didnt write about spring broke here.

very good steel and heat treat for the price. plus a trusted liner lock. cost a little more but you are getting way more for your monies and its not too much more than the one you originally picked.
i had it disengaged several times but the problem is in the looks. I have it and do not carry as i want beautiful knife. Too hard to find a black one. No shop has one. Even hinderer doesnt coat screws. I dunno y.

Something i want to add is that I've had or gave knives in 440A that have been pretty well heat treated and are just fine for edc, so it's not the worst steel out there.

Many knives a long time ago didn't list the specific steel.
Victorinox knives aren't marked with the steel type though it can be found, so not listening the specific steel doesn't necessarily mean the company can't or doesn't make a decent affordable knife.
If people start to buy the knife and love the knife , maybe Bear & Son will see enough worth in the design to want to produce it in a better steel.

Nope. If people buy and love the knife, then Bear and Son's will just have their overseas contractor just make more of them in the same steel.

What you are claiming is that "if people buy and like MacDonalds' $2 burger deal enough, then MacDonalds will start selling a $25 Wagyu truffle burger."

And they wont.

Nevermind, the COO was mislabeled on bladehq.

Just the incorrect stuff.

Also, the assumption that this knife is good because the domestic Bear and Sons are good should be dismissed.

Bear Edge is pretty clearly their "cheap import" line. Many makers do one, and quality of them has nothing to do with their "domestic" line, necessarily.

What is Boker's....Boker Magnum? Junk.
