Hello my name is rick. So i recently (today) found a old USMC kbar utility knife. This knife was a old green leather sheath, has serrations on the top and its end cap has a compass that doesn't work anymore. It also has what looks to be a fire starting kit inside the grip. I this knife are a real kbar? If so what ear is the knife from? This knife has come to me 4th hand from it original owner supposedly a man in the USMC so I don't know if it is a real kbar or not. If i could figure out how to put pictures in here I would C:\Users\Owner\Pictures\IMG_5126.JPG

Pics would be very helpful. Does it say kabar on the knife, or just that style knife? Doesn't sound like a kabar I've seen but hopefully someone more knowledgeable will verify

From your description, it is neither USMC issue nor is it a Kabar. It sounds more like a $4.99 "survival" knife that can be purchased from Harbor Freight.

It's not the classic Ka-Bar USMC, no. That's what someone told you, right?

The term "K-bar" was/is used by the masses to describe a variety of knives that look somewhat similar.

The ubitquitous WW2-era Marine 1219c2 combat knife should be stamped KA-BAR on one side and USMC on the other side of the blade's ricasso.

What everyone else has said. That is in no way a "Kabar". At all.

Kabar USMC's (of current manufacture, model number 1217) have neither serrations on top, compasses on the pommel, nor do they have a hollow handle (they are rat tail/stick tang knives).

This is a "Kabar USMC".

There are other knives that look similar, that may be referred to by those that aren't as familiar as a "kabar", but their profile and type of construction is almost always nearly identical to what you see above. Additionally, back in WW2, there were many companies that manufactured the "kabar" knife (other than Kabar, the knife manufacturing company). But again, they are all made/constructed very similarly, and look more or less identical to what you see above.

So, congrats on finding a blade :). Just be aware its not a "kabar". Its not the pattern/design that many call the "kabar", nor is it made by Kabar.

Also, I think as a normal registered user, you can't upload photos as attachments to posts. You have to use an image hosting service and copy the links over in the image tags.

Welcome to the forum :).

Am I the only one that caught the spelling. The OP spelled it KBAR not KA-BAR or KABAR
