I was behind my grandmothers getting GPS coordinates to find out how close I am to her property line. Found this pile of Bones burried 1/2 in the ground. Looked like they have been there a while too.
Deer. Probably a doe from what it looks like. Rodents have just ate away some of the bone in areas that would make it look more like a deer, like where the front teeth should be.
Yep. Rats and mice gets lots of vitamins and minerals from bones and antlers in the woods. They'll eat them up pretty good. Cool photo of those marks!!
Maybe this will help.
The smaller jaw is from an adult whitetail doe.
The large jaw is from an adult horse.
I think we can rule out the horse.
Here is a photo close to the OP's.
You are looking at the right side of an adult whitetail doe jaw.
The missing front teeth in the OP's photo is normal since they readily fall out.
The missing bone at the rear of the jaw on the OP's photo is realtively thin, and would be the first to rot away.
Are there any domestic goats or sheep raised near the area where the bones were found?
If not, it is likely whitetail deer.
