Since I've been watch the hardness tester thread I thought I would start looking again. This morning I found this(Service diamond hardness tester model 8SSA) I hope it wont be a $100 dollar paper weight. I don't know anything about these, but I think it's important to making the best consistent product I can and this will help. I don't know if they all use weights but I don't have any or an indenter. I have a lot of test blocks but they all seem to 'n' ,'b' or't' would they be of any use? I called the company and they have a manual for $25 and a 'c' indenter for $215 and parts if I need them. I'm going to order the manual but I was wondering if eBay indenters were OK? I just saw what @Stacy E. Apelt - Bladesmith wrote about weights so I will think about that and check on prices of weights if applicable. Is anyone familiar with this or how well they work?

While researching this information for my own hardness tester purchase, I found a number of threads where people report good experiences with the made-in-china diamond indenters. I've no personal experience with it, however.

If the standard HR-150 type diamond indenter will work, it the "Made in China" diamonds from ebay (and other places) should work just fine. I ordered one just to have a spare. Swapping it between the one that came in my HR150A I can't tell the difference. For $12 you can't go wrong!

JT and Ken thank you. I'll probably order an indenter tomorrow there's an HR150a I found that says 150kg load and that's what my plate says under "c" scale, I'll measure first but I probably can't wait for the manual .
