Found this old Norton stone

Went to a yard sale and found this old Norton stone in the box. Gave the guy a dollar for it.

How old do you think this is? There seems to be some gunk on the stone, how would I get that off?

I've got 2 of those, I use comet cleanser and a scrub brush.

Or boil it in water with lots of laundry or other detergent. Watch for foamy boil-overs!

What period in time do you think this thing is from? I'm guessing late 50's?

Thanks for the tips. I tried this one out yesterday, and it cuts really well.
