I always like to give more than I receive; it makes me feel more like the solution than the problem. Don't get me wrong, I really like to receive, but giving is where it's at. In just now updating my knife spreadsheet, I found that I am wanting in the giving department. I keep track of the value of knives I've received as gifts and given as gifts, and I'm a little behind (I got a couple of nice ones for Christmas!). So here is one to put me back ahead! ;)

Up for grabs is a 2007 GEC Tidioute #53 pattern muskrat, with 1095 blades and antique green jigged bone. The jigging pattern is actually "scratting," as found on one of Charlie's TC Barlows. They made 125 of these with serial number, but this is one of only five without serial number, so may have some value to collectors in the future, who knows. Anyway, it's a beautifully made knife.

I would like this giveaway to be open only to forumites who have either never won a giveaway, or never owned a GEC pocket knife. Honor system, of course. To enter, tell us about a time when you gave something of your goods or your time to help someone else. We'll keep it open 'til Monday at noon, after which I'll draw a number and ship out the knife.

Let's hear those heartwarming stories!

Hello there i like the theme of this giveaway as being a volunteer firefighter I spend a lot of time helping others and I enjoy every moment of it. One of my experience with giving away one of my goods is when I gave away one of my EDC'S to a complete strangers in need of money for food. I had no money on me and knew he could have used the knife more than me to either sell or use to cut food or something. I have seen him around several times looking through garbage cans looking for food at one time I had just gone food shopping and seen him as I was leaving the parking lot and gave him a meal to eat.

I've only participated in some 3 GAWs or so, no luck so far. Since a few days I own two GECs and they're great. I give clothes I don't wear anymore but are still in good shape to people who are worse off financially, I've been tutoring and translating for people who don't speak English and especially German. I've given cigarettes to homeless people on several occassions when I was aproached (not really a thing to brag about, they're bad for the health). Nothing worldchanging, I'm just a University student.
Thanks for the oportunity and good luck!

Not an entry I own 15 GEC's and have won GAW's nut I wanted to say what a great GAW Jeff and good luck to all.

Not an entry as I have both won a contest on Bladeforums and definitely own a GEC. Great idea though. Not everyone can always afford a knife like this. Excellent GAW! If I can't enter, I can at least share a story? Few years ago I found myself stranded on the lake about 2 miles from the dock. A complete stranger stopped and helped. About a week later I was eating pizza at a local restaurant and noticed a couple with kids out in the parking lot with obvious car trouble. Turned out they were just out of gas. Felt good to be able to return the kindness and help them out. Little acts of kindness can really change the world. Good luck everyone!

That's very generous of you. I have only entered maybe 2-3 giveaways and haven't won any of them.

I spent more than a few years volunteering for a program that meant a lot to me about two weekends each month. There was quite a bit of travel involved, which sometimes meant sleepless nights leaving directly from work on a Friday afternoon driving to an event location. Thankfully I have an understanding and supportive wife... And the smiles on the participant's faces was worth it.

Im always just blown away and amazed at the generosity of the people on this forum. Never won a GAW sure wouldn't mind winning one now haha, but thats minor compared to the fact that you are doing this GAW, truly generous of you sir. Just recently I was at a store and just done shopping when a homeless old man came up to me asking for spare change. I gave him all the change I had, then also decided to take him to the nearest restaurant and bought him probably a bigger meal than he could eat haha. It is always surprising how doing even minor acts of kindness for people can completely change your perspective on life and give you a greater sense of accomplishment than I thought possible.

This is a brilliant idea. As a long time reader and occasional contributor, I'm in and thank you.

It's the little things. In my case, I was 23 years old, and I had a Tutter the mouse (from Bear in the Big Blue House) dangler on my backpack that screamed one of "Whoah-ho!", "Yee-ha!", or "WHEEE!" when it tugged on a string. Anyway, on a flight home, I ended up on a small plane with two older friends of mine and their young (3 or 4 years old, as I recall) daughter. She was having something of a rough flight, so I gave her the Tutter from my backpack. She was ENTHRALLED. I ran into them some time later and they told me how much she loved it and carried it EVERYWHERE.

It's never the things you think matter to someone but the things THEY think matter that has an impact.

Very generous of you.
not an entry, please. I've never owned a GEC, but I've won one or two GAW's since joining.

Wonderful giveaway!

I have never owned a GEC but would love one.

Let's see - goods and time to help others.

Here is one. I was at a small grocery shop in a tourist area. The person in front of me was attempting to purchase granola bars and other food for their hike, but the local payment machine wasn't working so the store could only take cash. The person in front of me had no cash on them, so I just paid for their groceries. It was under $15. She asked me for my contact information so she could repay me and I said, "Just pay it forward."

I am ineligible on both counts. The forum has been good to me. But oooohwheee! What a looker. Someone is going to be very happy with that.

First Class GAW and very original idea from one of the Forum's most respected members.

Obviously I'm ineligible - just a few GECs - and I've won a couple of really good GAWs (not for a while though...:D:D.)

The jigging on this knife is really something, it will be a great prize for the lucky winner!

Regards, Will

Have never won any gaw's and actually just learned of GEC a few weeks ago so this would be a great start to the several I'm looking to buy. Thank you for offering such a great giveaway.

I've been volunteering at my local animal shelter for about six months. I'm a a dog person but they needed cat volunteers so I've been helping people adopt cats every Monday. Truly I think it does more for me than the cats though, extremely fulfilling.

Never won a giveaway, and a big time wannabe GEC owner here!

Recently a I learned of some tough times a new coworker has been going through, girlfriend left him with his 6 month old son. He works with us at a warehouse and a restaurant on the weekends and still can barely make ends meet. He's a great guy, honestly one of the hardest working employees we have and he does it all for his son. Knowing Christmas time would be tough for them, my family and I gave him and his son a bunch of toys, car seat attachments, coupons and various other child related items that we knew would go a long way with them. He was elated and said his son was going to love everything. I could tell it really made a difference and I'm really glad to have been able to help him with what I could. I hate seeing good, honest, hard working people that care about their families go through hard times.

I've definitely never won a giveaway, I think it's perpetual bad luck lol. I'm newish to the world of knife collecting and that GEC would be my first traditional style knife that I've ever owned. I still remember my late grandfather always carrying his trusty Old Timer in his left breast pocket. He and I would volunteer here in Bernheim Forrest (KY), helping with guided tours in the summertime. But the majority of our time was spent trying to keep the park clean from debris so that the park would be enjoyed by everyone. Great memories. This would be the perfect introduction into the world of traditional knives! Thanks
